To provide encouragement and support to adult learners by:
- Select material and approaches suitable to the student's skill levels.
- Meet regularly and consistently, and be well-prepared for each lesson.
- Review with the student any work he/she has done independently.
- Work with students and involve them in all significant decisions about instruction.
- Keep a record of students' progress to submit monthly to the Program Coordinator (Monthly Tutor Reports). Reports are due on the 10th of each month.
- Create long-term and short-term goals with the student.
- Create lesson plans that directly tie to the student's overall educational goals while keeping in line with their short-term goals.
- Help the student build confidence and a positive attitude. Affirm his/her thinking and progress in each lesson.
- Help the student to become an independent learner and self-starter.
- Show respect for the student, listen to what he/she has to say, and involve the student in decisions about the learning process.
- Report your status to the Program Coordinator regularly, including updates to tutoring days, times, and locations.
